近年來，亞洲冰球運動發展迅速，特別是青少年冰球運動成績驕人，令人鼓舞。而在大中華地區中，中華臺北隊尤其突出，其成功激勵幷帶動區內各城市冰球運動的進一步發展。

此次在臺北舉行的「IIHF世界青年U18第三級A組錦標賽」，令人期待巳久。來自澳大利亞、土耳其、保加利亞及中華臺北等地的球隊應邀參賽。中華臺北是亞洲唯一參賽的隊伍。希望藉此讓來自各地的球隊有機會作多方面的交流，創造良好的正面的互動效果。

體育運動是現代社會生活不可或缺的重要元素。讓我們構建冰球運動的交流平臺，凝聚各方新生力量。期望在不久的未來，亞洲城市攜手共進，繼續爲發展冰上運動而開展更多不同項目的比賽及交流活動。

It is with great pleasure that I welcome the participating nations to the 2011 IIHF World U18 Championship Division III Group A. With Taipei City serving as the host for this year’s tournament, it marks yet another important step in the development of ice hockey in Asia.

The growth of the sport in this part of the world has increased by leaps and bounds in the past few years, and it is no less evident than in this city, where the 2010 IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia was hosted and supported by hundreds if not thousands of fans. It is my hope that with this Under-18 tournament, even more spectators may be drawn to the sport and ice hockey can continue to gain traction at the grassroots level amongst Asian youth.

I am also happy to see the continued development of both the host team and the participating nations of Turkey, Bulgaria, and Australia. It is so important for the prolonged expansion of international hockey that teams such as these are playing in direct competition. The interaction and competitiveness of these young hockey nations will only serve to benefit their level of play and provide more opportunities to experience this great game.

Therefore, as president of the IIHF I would like to extend my gratitude to the Chinese Taipei Ice Hockey Federation for assuming the responsibility of organizing this 2011 IIHF World U18 Championship Division III Group A, and I wish the players the best of luck at this tournament and in their future careers on the ice.
